Secret proposal at Material Good, planned with the precision of a movie scene, Sweet Home Alabama energy, but even better.
The husband-to-be planned everything down to the second. I saw the timeline myself, complete with exact timestamps and specific songs queued for each moment. Watching that level of care and intention was incredible. It was impossible not to feel how deeply in love he is with her. They are truly a beautiful couple, and the proposal unfolded flawlessly.
The proposal unfolded with quiet intention and complete privacy. Material Good closed the store entirely for them, transforming the space into an intimate, cinematic setting designed for a moment that would change everything. The original plan was simple on the surface: they were coming in to pick up watches he had been eyeing. She had no idea what was waiting for her.
As she walked into the store, the first thing she saw was a large Hermès box placed directly in front of her. Inside was a brown Birkin bag with gold hardware, an unforgettable surprise and the beginning of something much bigger. To her right, a long table glowed softly, lined with over one hundred candles, lush floral arrangements, and at the center, a green Rolex box tied with a signature ribbon..
He turned to her and said, “This one is for you.” She opened the Rolex box, revealing the watch, and just as she took it in, he gently pointed to the back and asked her to look closer. Engraved on the watch were the words “Will you marry me?”, written in Spanish, followed by the date of the proposal. The moment was quiet, emotional, and overwhelming in the most beautiful way.
What she didn’t realize was that friends were hidden nearby, waiting for her answer. As soon as she said yes, the space filled with celebration. Champagne appeared, embraces followed, and the store transformed from a proposal setting into an intimate engagement celebration. We moved seamlessly into a private engagement photoshoot, capturing raw emotion, joy, and disbelief as the moment settled in.
As a New York engagement photographer, witnessing this level of thought, planning, and emotion is rare. Every element was intentional, personal, and deeply meaningful. From the closed store to the engraved Rolex, from hidden friends to the quiet replacement of initials, this proposal wasn’t just about luxury. It was about devotion.
If you haven't watch "Sweet Home Alabama" with Reese Witherspoon it's a time for you to see it!
“¿Quieres casarte conmigo?”
Will you Marry me?
After nearly an hour of photographing, laughter, and celebration, the final surprises were revealed. The store staff returned with a gold Patek Philippe watch with a black face and diamonds, the watch he had originally come to pick up, along with a second Patek selected as a wife’s watch, symbolizing what this moment truly marked.
They also brought out a Bottega Veneta box, containing a new set of initials to replace the ones on her bag, now bearing his last name.
That detail alone nearly broke me.
I’m endlessly grateful to have documented this luxury secret proposal at Material Good in New York City, and to have been trusted with a moment this intimate. These are the stories that stay with you forever.
